*That* I don’t mind. I don’t like the song much, but Malcolm is one of my favorite TV shows right now. Honestly, I think it has made me better able to talk out problems with difficult people. I found myself negotiating in the style of Malcolm with my screaming ex(EX! yay!)-landlady the other day, and was kind of awed.
I believe They also did the theme for the Daily Show, which I get to watch while I am housesitting because my benefactors have cable. Also yay! The Daily Show is awesome!
In all fairness, the boys have been at it for going on twenty years, and haven’t hit many milestones of pop music decadence. To most people, they’re that band who did ‘that animaniacs song’ or ‘that istanbul song’ or ‘that sun song.’ Now they’ve just become the band who did ‘that clapping song.’ Nothing has changed, they just make more money doing this than playing college campuses, which is what they were doing for a while.
And don’t forget ‘Yeah, yeah’ in a Chrystler minivan ad.
Yeah, I know, ignominy and poverty suck. I have mixed feelings about it all myself…. ultimately what I come back to is a feeling none of us
should be able to make a living at art because it’s just not that important. not important like growing vegetables or educating children. then again, sometimes I think this is sour grapes and poor planning on my part.
I do love TMBG… I do feel like they’ve been sucky from John Henry onward… I feel like that’s Flans’s fault, and it has been noted that he’s the one fueling the commercial expansion of the group. And I like Linnell’s side projects a lot better. I think the soul of the group has been sold, for sure. I’ll still go to concerts, though not religiously like I used to.

Sorry, Leonard. Looks like I struck a nerve. Let me amend what I said: Art is important. It still does not by definition result in feeding you. Not like planting tomatoes. I’m actually percolating a longer piece on this theme right now.
And Catherine, I love the children’s album. I really ought to buy it. It was released at least a year ago, though.
